Hand Claps

Hey Grannies, forget crossword puzzles! If you want to improve your hand-brain coordination try out some of these fun hand clapping games with your school-age grandchildren. Hand claps are great to cheer up grandchildren. Surprise them with the sing-songs when they least expect it.
Kenz loves them. She has such a quick learning brain that she has them memorized after a few rounds. Her favorite is Miss Mary Mack. Kenz is six, almost ready to be jump roping, so we'll be practicing a few of those songs, too. I can't wait. She's getting so tall. Soon she'll be able to get the rope over my head! Ready, set .... jump in!

Miss Mary Mack

Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack
All dressed in black, black, black
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back
She asked her mother, mother, mother
For fifty cents, cents, cents
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants
Jump over the fence, fence, fence
They jumped so high, high, high
They touched the sky, sky, sky
And didn't come back, back, back
Till the fourth of July, July, July

A Sailor

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea to see what he could see, see, see
But all that he could see, see, see was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea.

The Alphabet Jump

A- my name is Amy, my husband's name is Ash, we live in Alabama and we bring back Apples. B- my name is Brenda, my husband's name is Brian, we live in Belgium and we bring back Bugs. C- my name is Carrie, my husband's name is Carl, we live in Colorado and we bring back Crickets.

Continue through the entire alphabet until you get stumped. Your turn is done and someone takes your place.

Down in the Valley

Down in the valley where the green grass grows
There sat (girl's name) sweet as a rose
She sang, she sang, she sang so sweet
Along came (boy's name) and kissed her cheek
How many kisses did he give her?
Count until jumper misses.

Winner is the one with the highest number before they miss
Watch an example of a hand clap

I love the words to the hand claps. But, what are the clapping motions? Is there anyway that you could make a video and post them?

I've been thinking of learning some (I only know 2) and would like to expand my repetoire!

Connie, these are fun to revisit. Do you know this old favorite:

I won't go to Macy's any more, more, more;
There's a big fat policeman at the door, door, door;
He'll grab you by the collar
And make you pay a dollar,
So I won't go to Macy's any more, more, more.

Of course today it would be different -- you couldn't be so un-politically correct as to use the word "fat," you'd have to say "police officer," and by now the dollar would be a ten-spot! But Macy's is still there.
