'Baby' Music

It wasn't that long ago that Kenz and I were into the Veggie Tales. We'd pop in the CD and rock out with Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato. I love the creativity of the Vegetable guys and still listen to them wit Brody.

Over the last couple of  years Kenz has memorized the lyrics to all of Hannah Montana's songs.  But now Hannah's posters have come down and Hannah is old hat.

These days the guy in the picture above is one of Kenz's favorites. (Grandma's and grandpa's meet Justin Bieber.)

Justin Drew Bieber (born March 14, 1994) is a Canadian pop / R & B singer, he began his professional career on YouTube, where he was discovered by his future manager Scooter Braun Braun Bieber flew to Atlanta Georgia to consult with Usher and soon signed a record with Iceland

Kenz (7 and 1/2)  recently redid the walls in  her room. She  had carefully flipped through the posters at Walmart choosing one of the Justin boy complete wth his bushy side-swept hair. It was a bit of  a surprize. Are you sure that's the one you want? Yes Nana it is!

The other day when we were at Target Kenzer spotted a Justin CD. It's on clearance Nana, can I please get it? (It was the second CD to be added to her 'new' collection. The first was Kidz Bop.)  When we got in the car I scratched open the cellophane with my key and then Kenz wrestled with the plastic case freeing the shiny plastic disc.

We smiled while we danced our heads and shoulders through the first song.... Baby.   Kenz then gave me a run down on the order of her favorites listed on the back cover. (Baby.. is my favorite.)  She sang me almost all the songs until we pulled in the driveway. She hears them on the radio when she's in compute with her mom and dad. Surprizingly, her voice sounds identical to the young lads. I love it!

I (vaguely) remember when I was about her age, (a little older, nine or ten) collecting 45's and 78's. I can't recall  exactly what my very first one was, but I think it was the--- MONKEES.

OMGoodness, come to think of it they had the exact same hairstyle as Justin Bieber!

Take the Last Train to Clarksville and I'll meet you at the station. Hey Hey We're The Monkees!

As grandparents, we have a grand opportunity to repeat the joy of the preadolescent years ( and beyond).  Discovering pop music and the fun it brought to car rides, to times alone in your room and times with friends was one of the best parts of my growing up.   (Sharing my music with my grandma would have been fun, too.)

In the early and mid 60's music was a doorway to a bigger life.

Doin it again with Kenz  reminds me of the Carpenter's song ...

We've Only Just Begun To Live.

Remember "Daydream Believer"?

Enjoy the Justin Bieber phase. Less wholesome choices wait in the wings!

My granddaughter just trade in her princess decor in her bedroom for a more grown up style. It's exciting and hard to see them grow up.
